The key point
The material name alone does not explain how the entire house is built. The structure, its layers and verified performance together provide a useful picture.
What is lightweight concrete?
Lightweight concrete covers several materials: it may contain lightweight aggregates, and porous or foamed variants also exist. Lightweight concrete designed for structural use may serve a different purpose from materials used for infill or thermal insulation. Always check the precise product and intended use alongside the term. [Lightweight concrete]
During a sales discussion, ask which element uses the material, whether it is load-bearing and which document describes its properties. A specific technical data sheet answers these questions better than a general material name.
What is lightweight construction?
Common timber and metal frame systems comprise an engineered frame, attached building boards, insulation and other layers. ÉMI's guidance distinguishes structures made from pre-tested building kits from those assembled from separate materials during construction. Details vary between systems. [ÉMI – structures]
On-site assembly versus factory prefabrication is a further consideration. Prefabrication alone does not determine whether a building uses timber, steel, concrete or another structure. Manufacturing location and structural material are two separate facts.
Three questions, three kinds of answer
| Question | What should you check? |
|---|---|
| What is it made of? | The precise material and product name |
| What carries the loads? | The structural role of walls, columns, frames and floor slabs |
| How is it assembled? | The description of connections, layers and site work |
Compare solutions using the same questions. For insulation, examine the complete wall; for sound protection, the adjoining structures; and for use, consider how fixtures can be attached later. Ask about the planned solution, rather than an example from another building.
Which documents help you decide?
The product declaration of performance records the verified characteristics declared by the manufacturer. The product identifier and intended use help check whether the document covers the actual installation. [ÉMI]
- Ask for the technical specification applicable to the apartment and its date.
- Find the descriptions of load-bearing walls, floor slabs, roof and insulation.
- Ask for specific values or system documents supporting general benefits.
- Discuss possible alterations, such as modifying a wall, separately with the appropriate specialist.
How does this relate to the Tisza project?
The published Tisza 1 B2 data sheet describes the external load-bearing wall as a 33 cm prefabricated, reinforced WLS ceramic-composite element containing fired ceramic granules. The floor slab and foundation are described separately as reinforced concrete structures. Read these descriptions together; prefabrication alone does not place the house in a general timber-frame category. [B2 data sheet]
Always interpret the apartment's construction using the project documents. This guide helps distinguish terminology; it does not replace structural design or product certification.
